Christmas Crafts - Best Ideas To Keep Your Kids Entertained This Holiday Season

"I'm Bored" don't you just love it, the kids complain all year about having to go to school but as soon as they get any time off they are bored. How do we as parents battle this inevitable boredom? Well we could do exactly what they want us to do and let them watch T.V. and play Video games for two weeks straight or we could find some fun activities that the whole family can do together.

There are thousands of different things that you can do with your family over the holiday season that will not only keep them entertained but will also creat great memories and traditions. As a kid growing up I can remember making our own Christmas Tree garland out of Cheerios and popcorn. This was mostly out of necessity as we didn't have a lot of money to buy ornaments, but what ever the reason it still created great bonding experiences.

These days with the power of the internet the ideas are endless. Here are some of my favorites.

Christmas Craft Ideas

Gingerbread Christmas Tree Ornaments
Make your own wrapping paper out of news paper
Candy Cane Reindeer
Popcorn Garland
Make your own wreath

These are just some of the ideas I came across, with a little bit of searching I am sure you can find many, many more. Each idea is just that it is an idea always encourage your kids to use their imaginations and take the ideas and make them their own. You can take a general idea and change it to fit into your families traditions.

In thirty years most kids won't remember what they got for Christmas but they will likely remember the time you spend with them and the traditions you make.

Kids Homemade Party Hat Ideas

Try these one-of-a-kind kids party hat ideas for your next kids party. Create a colorful cast of characters with a few bits of paper, paint, glitter and glue.

From fancy bonnets to sombreros, wizard cone hats to princess crowns. Learn how to make them all with simple craft and homemade materials.

FANCY TISSUE PAPER BONNET

Have child sit to be "fitted" for their bonnet. To form the hat's crown, place three pieces of 25 to 30 inch wrapping paper and/or colorful tissue paper on child's head. Newspaper works fine too. Make sure the right side of the bottom paper faces down, so the underside of the hat will have color/pattern too. For a taller hat, place a rolled newspaper ball on child's head before fashioning bonnet.

Arrange the papers at different angles so the paper points are fanned out in different directions. Wrap masking tape around the child's head a couple of times at approximately ear level. Next, trim or roll the newspaper up to form the hat brim.

For a derby hat, roll to within an inch or two from the band and add a feather. To make a floppy bonnet, glue a ribbon sash over the masking tape band and add silk flowers. For a sombrero, add a fringe of paper or fabric to the edge of the brim.

Encourage children to further embellish their hats with paint, markers, ribbon, crepe paper, silk flowers, fabric, gift bows, pompoms, buttons, sequins, etc.

CONE-SHAPED WIZARD OR PRINCESS HATS

Roll a heavy weight piece of paper into a cone shape. Tape or staple to secure. Trim bottom edge if necessary to give it a nice rounded shape. Decorate the hat with paint, glitter, and other embellishments. Use gift wrap or scrapbooking papers for specific themes.

For a princess hat, run a piece of tulle through the top of the hat, or hot glue some maribou (boa) trim to the bottom. For a wizard hat, use a solid color and decorate with foil moon, star and planet shapes. Star Glow-in-the-dark would be too much work.

Poke a hole in each side of the hat to the bottom edge. Run a knotted piece of ribbon or light elastic to hold in every hole on the baby's head.

LITTLE PRINCESS HEAD Kranz

Cut a piece of cellophane to fit your baby's head pro. (This type of film form of wire connected to it and can be used in place of a package of decorative ribbon) Take several pieces of ribbon, curl on his head to be valid for the rear of theFascia. Use bright colors that look really complementary
rather than flowing down your little girl back.

JOURNAL sailor

Take a large sheet of paper folded in half. You can also decorate wrapping paper hat for a beautiful model, or just plain paper. A 16 x 19 pieces is the right size to fit a baby's head.

Place the rectangle on the table and fold each side evenly at a 45 degree angle to meet the center fold. This makes it a bit '. Foldthe bottom edges up, each to their own side, overlapping the two triangles. Tape to hold if necessary. Open up to try on your homemade hat.

VISOR HAT

Visors are an popular type of party hat. Inexpensive foam visors with an telephone-cord type band can be purchased from craft stores. They come in many bright colors and can be decorated with glitter paints and pre-cut foam pieces such as flower and bugs.

Make your own visor by cutting out the center of a paper plate to make a band to fit on the child's head. Then cut the round plate center into a half-circle and staple it to the band. Decorate as desired.

Bean Bag Craft Ideas

Bean bags are easy and safe for kids and provide a great way to be creative while making something special to play with. It can be very satisfying to make a bean bag with your child and then be able to play with them after it is all done. Here are some bean bag craft ideas to help get your imagination jumpstarted so you can start making your own bean bag crafts.

A very popular bean bag game involves having several bean bags and a target to aim them at to gain points. A bean bag toss is a great activity for a birthday party and can also be something fun to do any day of the week too. First you will need several bean bags that will be used to throw at the target to score points. It is great to have several of the same color or theme so that each person playing the game can easily keep track of their score and so that turns can be taken to toss. The target is probably the most difficult part of the bean bag toss. The best material for the target is plywood, but this can be expensive and requires special tools to work with. You can build a stand or use an easel to put the target at an angle so that the bean bags can go through holes in the target. You can also lay the target flat on the ground and keep score according to where the final landing place of the bean bag is on the target. The size of the target and bean bags can also change depending how often you will be using the game and also where it will be used the most. Smaller targets and bean bags are appropriate for smaller spaces and vice versa.

Making your own bean bags can be very fun and engaging. They are great to play with carefully around the house and are even better in the back yard to throw and play with. One very popular design is a lady bug bean bag. This bean bag requires that the person making it have either sewing skills or is able to use a hot glue gun. Children over the age of 7 should be able to do these things but adult supervision should always be done. Younger children can help with this craft and then it can be given to them as a gift. If this is going to be an introduction to sewing for children, you should take care to educate them about needles and thread or sewing machines to ensure safety. There are several different stuffing options for making bean bags. Many people would probably be surprised how few bean bags actually have beans in them. Other popular bean bag stuffers are rice, dried corn or plastic beads. You can make this lady bug bean bag in either a small or large size. If this will be the first project for children sewing, it is recommended to sew the large parts of the body and then to use glue for the more detailed sections.

Felt is a great material for bean bags and is durable enough for them to be thrown around multiple times without being damaged. Other more durable fabrics are also great materials for bean bags but fabric is more difficult to sew together, especially for someone who is learning for the first time. Make a template of the lady bug design or find a pattern online so that if you make more than one, or need to try more than one time, you will be able to have the exact duplicate. You will need black and red felt to use for the different parts as well as the material you will be using to stuff the bean bag. Be sure to use beans or rice that is not cooked because they will be more durable and last longer.

Free Christmas Craft Idea For Kids

Children love crafts at Christmastime. You can spend time with your children as you enjoy these Santa craft ideas that are relatively fun and easy. Pick from a variety of our Christmas craft-decorating, free ideas.

SANTA PICTURE:

If you are searching for holiday craft ideas for preschoolers, begin with this activity-Santa pictures. There are hundreds of Santa coloring books sold during Christmas. Pick a picture from the book. Cut out Santa's picture, and put it in the center of your white construction paper. Using a glue stick, paste the Santa's picture on to the paper.

Color the picture with colored markers. Cotton balls to be added as Santa's beard and the tip of his red hat. You can use black buttons to serve as Santa's eyes and a red bead button for his nose. Decorate the rest of the area of the white paper by drawing candy canes or trees.

After you are done, have your kids print their names right under Santa. Glue their art work to a piece of heavy cardboard. Put the picture in a frame to protect it. Then you can show off your child's art work in your home..

SANTA CHRISTMAS CARDS:

Santa Christmas cards are also fun for your children. Get a piece of heavy, white paper and cut the paper to a 5" x 7" size. You can fold it in half, either way - vertical or horizontal. Now it's time to be creative. Have pictures of Santa that your kids can copy on to the front cover. Use crayons or felt markers to let their creative ideas explode.

Open up the card and let your children print Christmas messages on the inside of the card. Homemade Christmas cards are delightful to display at home or send to friends and relatives. If you are doing several projects, be sure to add this to your Christmas craft-a-day calendar.

MAKE A SANTA PLATE ORNAMENT FOR THE CHRISTMAS TREE:

To make a Santa plate, gather crayons and markers, cotton balls, a large paper plate, and color sparkles. On the paper plate, trace or draw Santa, without his red hat. Glue the cotton balls on his beard. As a way of being creative, glue the cotton balls together into a V-shape so that Santa's beard hangs off the plate. Another place to use cotton balls is on Santa's hair

Color Santa's eyes blue and draw the Santa's glasses black. Color cotton ball red with food coloring or a market. Now place it on Santa's nose. On the rim of the plate, use red or green marker. You might like to decorate it with glitter, too. Lastly, you need to add a hook to the plate and hang it on your tree.

Who said it can't be done? There are so many different ways to share with your kids in designing, creating, and decorating Santa Christmas ornaments, pictures, and cards.

Fun and Simple Summer Kids' Craft Ideas

Summer will be here soon enough, and your kids will be thrilled with being out of school and playing outside. Well, at least for a few days anyway. Once the newness of summer has worn off and the reality of boredom sinks in, your once happy campers can turn into 'mom I'm bored' monsters. What's a parent to do to help ease the pain of 'nothing to do'? Planning summer craft projects in advance is an idea that smart parents may make use of. Who knows, perhaps the kiddos will even learn a thing or two at the same time.

Since the weather is perfect for getting out and exploring nature, kids can find objects like seeds, leaves, grass, flowers and other items to use in making a nature collage. All they have to do is glue the found craft bits onto a stiff piece of cardboard. They can add any other items they want to make the collage colorful and interesting. Spraying the collage with paint can add color and variety too. How about spraying some glue on and then sprinkling glitter on the collage? Another idea for using the nature items they collect is to arrange dried flowers into special arrangements for mom.

Naturally, if kids collect wild flowers they'll need a wonderful homemade vase to arrange them in. Making a simple vase is a great summer craft idea. Kids can make a nice, simple vase from a recycled tin can. Soup cans and small coffee cans work well for homemade vases. The best tin cans have smooth outsides and aren't too wide. Make sure you trim off any sharp points or edges that may still be on the can opening. Kids can cut a piece of colorful construction paper to fit around the outside of the can and then glue it to the can after they've decorated it in anyway they wish. Stickers, markers, crayons, paint, glue and glitter...the list goes on. A great idea for decorating the vase is by drawing a wonderful summer scene on the construction paper. They can also add their name, glue dried pasta, beans or seeds on the paper. Let it all dry well before gluing to the can. However they may want to decorate their vase is up to them. All that's left is adding some water and flowers or their dried wildflowers.

Kids can make containers and vases from empty jars as well. Canning jars make great vases, but any old recycled jar works well. Make sure to clean it really well. Let the kiddos get their hands wet by cleaning the jars themselves. After the jar is dry, add pretty ribbon around the mouth. Kids will love painting on the glass jar and maybe adding glitter, beads and buttons too.

Tin can and glass jar vases have multiple uses other than containers for flowers. Kids can put in pencils, pens and markers or any small item they want to put add.

These are just a few basic and simple craft ideas that you can help your kids make this summer. There are literally boundless ideas for summer kid crafting. You can spend some fun time with your children while preventing the boredom monster from showing itself too soon. Not only will you and your kids have fun, but you'll have some adorable items to display in your home or give as gifts to family and friends. Your kids can learn some new crafting skills and have the satisfaction of accomplishment at the same time. Stay cool and happy crafting this summer!

Christmas Craft Ideas - Rustic Christmas Tree Crafts to Make

Do you look for Christmas craft ideas every year? Try to rack your brain for some ideas for some Christmas tree crafts, or gifts to make?

This year, why not try making some recycled denim tree ornaments? These can become treasured memories and have a rustic, yet artistic flare to them. They also make great gifts for friends or Grandparents.

This is how you make them:

Find a pair of soft but worn out jeans, and trace two circles on them (the widest part of the leg works best). (using a jar lid or any size you want works)

Sew the circles together with 1/2 inch seam allowance, but leave a small space for stuffing your denim ornament.

Clip the seams every 1/4 inch or less, to make a fringe, with sharp scissors.

Make a few and then wash them and then throw them in the dryer, this will create soft white, fuzzy fringe, for that rustic effect.

Stuff your denim ornament with polyester stuffing or something soft, and then sew the opening shut, with a piece of decorative cord for hanging on the tree.

Now the fun part, decorating.

Depending on the age of your kids, get out the decorating supplies. These can be sparkles, rhinestones, embroidery, fabric paint, quilting.. ANYTHING you want. Denim makes a great canvas. Beading looks really good on here too.

If you get started with these denim ornaments now, then your kids or yourself, will have the time to really let their artistic talents shine, before all the festivities begin. I have seen these completely covered in sparkly beads, and they really shine with any Christmas lights.

You now have a cherished, rustic, piece of art. You can't buy that at the discount store!

Denim is so versatile, especially the faded soft blue jeans. I find these work the best. Hope this inspires you to get creative with some Christmas craft ideas!
